Residential Aged Care Equipment Grants Program

About the program

The Strengthening Medicare – Supporting Older Australians initiative is offering grants for small medical equipment for residential aged care homes (RACHs) in Victoria, including government and non-government organisations.

All aged care providers who deliver residential care in Victoria will be invited to apply for a grant from $3,500 and up to $10,000 to be spent on medical equipment that supports clinical assessment and care of residents.

The grants will be delivered in 1 payment paid from February 2026. The application period for grants will commence in October 2025 and close on 16 December 2025 at 4pm.

Training

This medical equipment grant program is being delivered alongside training for residential aged care nurses and is designed to support and complement the training.

RACH providers who apply for a grant must commit to sending at least one registered or enrolled nurse to a free Comprehensive Health Assessment of the Older Person (CHAOP) training workshop.

Funding is provided by the Australian Government via the Victorian Department of Health and delivered in partnership with the Department of Government Services.

Equipment details

The eligible equipment is limited to:

  • otoscopes
  • infrared thermometers
  • fingertip pulse oximeters
  • stethoscopes
  • manual blood pressure machines
  • vital signs monitors
  • reflex hammers
  • tuning forks
  • pen lights

The equipment list has been selected to support the implementation of skills learnt by nurses in the CHAOP training.
