About AOD Pathways

AOD Pathways is a state-wide service delivered by Turning Point. It provides support to:

  • individuals, their families and supporters who have had trouble navigating residential treatment services. It aims to overcome stigma and systemic barriers including lack of integrated supports.
  • state funded residential services by providing a weekly snapshot of service availability. This includes information on capacity, occupancy and waitlists in residential services in Victoria. They also hold regular AOD System Coordination Group meetings with providers.

GPs, AOD services, and other health providers can refer to AOD Pathways. They may also self-refer. You can read more about the program on the DirectLine website.

Information for service providers

The AOD Pathways online portal gives agencies up-to-date information on vacancies. This includes current and projected bed vacancies in residential treatment services across Victoria.

This includes:

  • rehabilitation services for adults
  • withdrawal services for adults
  • rehabilitation services for young people
  • withdrawal services for young people

Each service completes a weekly survey detailing:

  • who they are
  • what client group they support
  • how many current and projected vacancies they have
  • any extra information about who the vacancy is suitable for (i.e. people with children, men or women).

System coordination

Turning Point hold regular AOD System Coordination Group meetings with the department. These meetings bring together state funded adult and youth residential services to:

  • build knowledge of sector wide services, processes, eligibility and capacity
  • improve treatment pathway coordination
  • improve access

These enable people to make more informed choices about their treatment.
