Community health pride – LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice resources

The Community health pride - lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, asexual (LGBTIQA+) resources support community health services in inclusive service planning and practices.

The resource suite is structured so that it can be used by all community health services, whether they are starting to develop inclusive practice approaches or seeking to review and strengthen their models.

By valuing diversity, actively practising inclusion and working to eliminate access barriers, community health services can help to improve the experience of LGBTIQA+ clients and their health and wellbeing.

These resources were developed in consultation with community health services and key experts in the LGBTIQA+ field. You can access the resources in the download section of this page.

LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice toolkit

The comprehensive toolkit includes practical advice, tips, links to resources, templates and case studies for community health services to embed LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice across all levels of the organisation.

The toolkit broadly invites community health services to reflect on:

  • barriers LGBTIQA+ clients might face when accessing services
  • work that community health services have already achieved in developing and implementing LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice models in collaboration with their LGBTIQA+ communities
  • adopting a systematic approach to LGBTIQA+ inclusion.

The department acknowledges that the use of language and terminology continues to evolve across the communities. Community health services using this toolkit can adapt the language as appropriate.

Community health pride posters

There are 11 different A3 posters to support your LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice initiatives. The posters capture:

  • representation from across LGBTIQA+ groups
  • different age cohorts and geographical settings
  • intersection with Aboriginal people, people with disability and from religious and cultural backgrounds.

PDF materials can be displayed on screens in waiting areas or printed. Please note you will need to adjust your printer settings to print in A4, as the material is currently set to print in A3.

Microsoft Word versions are provided to enable customisation of the posters to include a community health service's logo above the Victorian Government logo.

Instructions for adding your logo to the posters

  1. Open the Word version of the poster you want to use.
  2. Add your logo. In the Insert tab, select Picture, choose your logo from your files (.jpg or .png versions) and select Insert.

Alternatively, use the size settings in the Format tab or the keyboard shortcut Shift+Ctrl+down arrow.
