Legislation covering private hospitals
The requirements for the safety and quality of patient care in Victoria's private health are set out in the Health Services Act 1988 (the Act) and the Health Services (Health Service Establishments) Regulations 2024 (the Regulations).
Proprietors and developers need to make sure they understand their legal obligations and how to meet the standards set out in the Act and Regulations.
An approval in principle (AIP) certificate must be obtained before building a private hospital.
