Nurse practitioners have completed extra university study to be able to perform extra duties, like:
- order tests
- prescribe treatments and medications
- diagnose patients within their scope of practice.

Registration standard
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia has published the approved Registration Standard for Nurse Practitioner endorsement.
