Key messages

  • We provide a range of health programs directed at improving Aboriginal health including in-patient care, health promotion, palliative care, eye health and maternity services. These include:
    • The Improving Care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Patients (ICAP) program aims to increase access by Aboriginal Victorians to health services and improve health outcomes.
    • The Victorian Aboriginal Palliative Care Program (VAPCP) aims to create a sustainable and culturally safe palliative care service system to enable Aboriginal people to access palliative care services.
    • As part of improving eye health, the Victorian Aboriginal Spectacle Subsidy Scheme allows Aboriginal Victorians to access a specifically designed pair of frames along with prescribed lens for a patient contribution of $10.
    • Health funding for hospitals - Aboriginal WIES loading and cultural safety fixed grant
    • The Koori Maternity Services (KMS) program(opens in a new window) focuses on increasing access to antenatal care, postnatal support and hospital liaison to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes for Koori and Torres Strait Islander women and babies.
